PADI Europe, Middle East and Africa attended two very successful UK shows last month; the London International Dive Show (LIDS) and the Telegraph Outdoor Adventure and Travel Show. Both shows took place during the same week, and PADI staff made the most of building on opportunities to engage with PADI Members and Divers as well as the non-diving public.
The PADI Village was back and busier than ever, with a stream of PADI and non-PADI visitors coming to find out the latest PADI news. The PADI Open Water Touch, in particular, was a source of great interest and visitors enjoyed exploring this new highly interactive learning tool.
Exhibiting PADI Dive Centres in the show were offered the support of a PADI Member Support Pack to help boost their show presence, and enjoyed many “on the spot” PADI course sign-ups. Customers took delight in the PADI free T-Shirt promotion upon signing up to their chosen course.
Over 65 PADI Professionals joined the PADI Member Forum on the Sunday, receiving information on the new PADI Open Water Touch and PADI Elite Instructor Awards, as well as updates on ScubaEarth, Project AWARE and more. The Member Forum was also an opportunity for PADI Members to meet Mark Spiers (Vice President, Sales and Marketing) Tony Andrews (Manager, Field Services) and Matt Clements (Regional Manager).
A PADI Awards Ceremony, also on Sunday, recognised the outstanding achievements of five PADI Dive Centers: Anglesey Divers, Divecrew, Diving Leisure London, DiveStyle and Diving Unlimited.
PADI staff also gave a warm welcome to Miss Scuba International 2013, Jaime-Lee Faulkner, who visited the PADI stand on Sunday.
Within the main hall, John Carlin presented Inspiring Underwater Photography in the main Photo Zone and enjoyed a full house on both days. Attendees left with new photography insights and a PADI “Goodie Bag” to inspire divers to further their skills as well as boost sales of courses and equipment.
The Discover Scuba Diving Pool was overwhelmed with visitors lining up to try diving with PADI 5 Star IDC Centre London School of Diving, and Saturday alone saw more DSD participants than had taken part during the entire 2013 LIDS!
The Telegraph Outdoor Adventure and Travel Show
PADI joined forces with Canon UK to combine the best of scuba diving and photography within a specially-designed space, which attracted non-stop visitors throughout every day of the show.
PADI Staff enjoyed an excellent opportunity to engage non-divers, introduce them to the world of scuba and encourage them to visit LIDS to try diving that same weekend, as well as sharing the benefits of improving photography skills with the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course. Visitors could even test Canon cameras in an ocean-themed dip tank running through the middle of the stand!
The main event, however, was the grand prize draw which attracted over 700 entries and which provides a keen contact list of potential divers with whom PADI Marketing will communicate and incentivise with post-show communications, in order to help drive sales of PADI courses and equipment for the coming dive season.
Just one lucky visitor to the stand, Mr Gary Edwardson, won the ultimate package of scuba goodies which included a full PADI scuba diving course, a full set of scuba gear, a Canon camera and underwater housing and a PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course. Worth over £3,000 this incredible prize was supported by PADI, Canon, Apeks/Aqualung, Fourth Element and Suunto.
“I feel incredibly privileged and lucky to have been picked out of the hat to win this extensive prize list. I’m extremely excited about getting started on the course. What excites me most about completing the course is that it will add an extremely important string to my wildlife photography bow. I’m dedicated to exploring the world we live on, to travel the far reaches of the planet and discover the array of underwater life would be a dream come true”, said Mr Edwardson.
PADI will be exhibiting at the Birmingham Dive Show in October – watch this space to find out what PADI promotions will be on offer to help drive sales at the show and beyond.
