As soon as required materials are available from the Europe, Middle East and Africa Regional Headquarters, you need to begin incorporating them into your EFR courses to ensure the new Guidelines are reflected in your programs and materials. Required implementation date for all revised EFR materials (English) was 1 January 2013. For other languages – implement as soon as materials become available.

A task force has been initiated to look into the opportunities and to work together with the Dive Centers to support their business.
Daniela Diving is taking a step forward to offer support to their local community and has initiated the Awareness Project in Dahab. Together with sponsers, this project will offer 8 bedouins the opportunity to become Divemasters. Within the scope of this project Marine Protection will be addressed, awareness as to the environment, Clean Up projects, school projects, swimming and various other activities will fall under this programme. Karim El Hemeidy – the Owner of Daniela Diving: “I believe in this project and will personally conduct the Divemaster courses. The first meeting took place together with Hagag, my assistant, and we have filled the 8 places for our divemasters. The attendees are motivated and even if it will be hard work we are looking forward to the challenge. The aim of this project is to bring the awareness of the susceptibility of the marine life, the ecosystem and the need to uphold and respect the local and international laws. Diving will be a form of integration into this environment with the opportunity to adapt and to be ambassadors for the protection of marine life.”

As we are the largest regional office, speaking more than 10 different languages and having a spectrum of cultures within this region, it is important for us to maintain and to increase our personal touch and to reach out to our membership. History was made for Sharks & Rays last night in Bangkok… and we wanted you to be among the first to hear the news. 5 highly traded species of sharks are now protected under CITES regulations! Plus Mantas and Sawfish!
The oceanic whitetip shark, porbeagle, three species of hammerheads, and both manta rays – all classified as threatened on the IUCN Red List — will now be added to CITES Appendix II, which prompts permits to ensure exports are sustainable and legal. The freshwater sawfish will be transferred from Appendix II to I, where all other sawfishes are listed, thereby completing a global ban on international commercial trade in these critically endangered species.
This is a huge victory and a testament to the ongoing dedication of all our friends and allies. Thanks to each and every one of you who helped rally the global dive community behind our shark campaign and fight this battle since 2010.

2013 PADI Member Forum in the South East
We are pleased to invite you to join us for the first 2013 PADI Member Forum in the South East at Wraysbury Dive Site. Richard Major has kindly allowed us to use his premises as this is a familiar and well used training site for PADI courses by many of our PADI professionals. The Submerged Gathering in Kinsale, Ireland
This year is the year of ‘The Gathering in Ireland’. If you haven’t heard about The Gathering concept before this is a spectacular, year-long celebration in 2013 of all things Irish (http://www.thegatheringireland.com/About).
Now Ireland has some amazing diving and so OceanAddicts are entering into the spirit of the year by hosting a Submerged Gathering here in Kinsale. The Submerged Gathering takes place on the weekend of 20-21/04/13 and any proceeds from the weekend will be presented to the RNLI. The weekend will be a mixture of diving and talking about diving and a chance to catch up with old friends and make some new diving buddies.
On the Saturday morning (registration will be at 9.30am) after a dive brief we will be heading out to the dive site for the ‘Submerged Gathering’. In the afternoon, there are presentations from Paul Rose will be joining them from the UK and their own John Collins, who will present two entertaining and informative talks. Later that evening there will be music in the bar of the Trident Hotel.
For non-diving friends and partners there is also a seafood festival, with street markets on Saturday and a Chowder Cook Off on Sunday.
I am excited to be to attending the event and I will be joining in on the activities taking part on the Saturday (20/04/13) so I would like to invite you to come and join us.

2013 London International Dive Show (LIDS)
Come and visit the London International Dive Show together with your buddy at ExCel London, 23-24 March 2013.
At the show you will find all aspects this exciting sport has to offer. Get your non-diving buddy to join the free PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program in the LSD try-dive pool. For every Discover Scuba Diving candidate that signs up for a PADI Open Water Diver Course gets a free T-Shirt. Get your buddy fascinated by this sport. All you have to do is show your PADI Cert card at the kiosk at the show and you will be eligible for the 2-4-1 ticket offer. The diver who pays will get a normal paid for ticket (£12.50) and your buddy will be given a complimentary ticket which they will need to fill in their contact information on the back. The complimentary ticket will then be collected on entry to the show.

The offer is valid for any new PADI diver who got certified as a Scuba- or Open Water Diver on/after 01/04/2012. The new diver will need to show his/her PADI Certification Card at the counter at the show.
