UK National Diving Week – Diving for the Nation!

UK National Diving Week kicks off with the Cornwall SCUBAFEST event at Pentewan Sands on the weekend of 2nd May with the week of diving running through to the 10th May 2015. Over the course of the 9 day UK National Diving Week period there will be the opportunity for the British public to ‘have a go’ at scuba and snorkel diving at their local UKNDW participating dive centre or club by way of experiencing a ‘try a dive’ session as well as snorkelling sessions in swimming pools.

UK National Diving Week has teamed up with dive industry organisations like PADI EMEA, who have kindly offered free Discover SCUBA Diving sessions at participating diving centres situated throughout the UK. That’s new diving opportunities to members of the public who have never dived before! Pass on this link to anyone who wishes to participate in the PADI Discover Scuba Diving events,

During the SCUBAFEST event in Pentewan, PADI will be hosting a Member Forum for PADI Professionals on Saturday 2nd May at 4pm. Click on this link to register your participation. Staff members from PADI EMEA office will be present all weekend to answer any questions you have and also show off the new digital suite of products.

UK National Diving Week will also provide the opportunity for existing qualified divers to try new experiences such as diving with Closed Circuit Rebreathers or side-mount systems, learning new skills with some of the industries leading instructors and industry guru’s and mentors as well as having access to kit and top advice from dive manufacturers. It also offers people the simple opportunity to go diving on a UKNDW promoted dive. It is the goal of the UK National Diving Week to introduce at least 1000 new divers into the sport within the UK through this 9 day long event. Visit for information on the venue and events.

PADI Staff visit Saudi Arabia to introduce Digital Product Suite and Support Arab Market

cd roundtable

In December 2014, Mark Spiers (PADI Vice President, Sales, Field Services, Marketing & Business Development), Teo Brambilla (PADI Regional Manager), Ahmed Sayed (PADI Product Consultant) and Rich Somerset (Manager, Training and Quality Management) conducted a joint trip to Saudi Arabia.

The trip included a series of events and activities designed to provide support to the Arab market and Arabic Instructors and to communicate how important these key markets are to PADI.

During a Course Director round table event, PADI Course Directors were updated on the state of the market as well as latest PADI trends and training materials, including the upcoming launch of PADI Digital Products as part of PADI’s lead in the scuba industry’s digital revolution.

mf6Member Forums took place in both Tabouk and Jeddah and were delivered in Arabic by Ahmed Sayed. 130 PADI Members attended across the two locations and covered the latest news about the launch of PADI Digital Products (due to launch shortly for both touch and online platforms), and PADI’s market share in comparison with competitors as part of the ‘Win with PADI’ value proposition. A separate, informal Member Forum was provided in English for a small group of PADI Members who were non-Arabic speakers.

At both Member Forum events, a Training and Quality Management (TQM) seminar provided an explanation of the Quality Management process, and the way that the Training department can support PADI members in their day to day work.  A review of paperwork management for freelance PADI Instructors was also well-received.

It was announced during the trip that the website, along with a number of additional training materials, would be translated into the Arabic language. Before heading home, the Member Forum participants were each given a pair of PADI sunglasses and key-ring as well as a PADI USB stick containing a wealth of useful resources in the Arabic language: PADI posters, the Win with PADI / Member Guides, “How To” Guides including how to find forms, complete purchases and PIC Online etc., plus a guide to the different PADI EMEA departments and who to contact for assistance.

“It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to visit Saudi Arabia and meet with PADI Members there. This is a very important market for PADI and this is reflected in the number of materials that we will be translating into Arabic over the coming months. This includes a dedicated web site, and PADI App, as well as our course materials. I look forward to coming back very soon” – Mark Spiers, PADI Vice President, Sales, Field Services, Marketing & Business Development.

PADI Creates Opportunities at UK Shows in February

PADI Europe, Middle East and Africa attended two very successful UK shows last month; the London International Dive Show (LIDS) and the Telegraph Outdoor Adventure and Travel Show. Both shows took place during the same week, and PADI staff made the most of building on opportunities to engage with PADI Members and Divers as well as the non-diving public.

The PADI Village was back and busier than ever, with a stream of PADI and non-PADI visitors coming to find out the latest PADI news. The PADI Open Water Touch, in particular, was a source of great interest and visitors enjoyed exploring this new highly interactive learning tool.

Exhibiting PADI Dive Centres in the show were offered the support of a PADI Member Support Pack to help boost their show presence, and enjoyed many “on the spot” PADI course sign-ups. Customers took delight in the PADI free T-Shirt promotion upon signing up to their chosen course.

Over 65 PADI Professionals joined the PADI Member Forum on the Sunday, receiving information on the new PADI Open Water Touch and PADI Elite Instructor Awards, as well as updates on ScubaEarth, Project AWARE and more. The Member Forum was also an opportunity for PADI Members to meet Mark Spiers (Vice President, Sales and Marketing) Tony Andrews (Manager, Field Services) and Matt Clements (Regional Manager).IMG_8777

A PADI Awards Ceremony, also on Sunday, recognised the outstanding achievements of five PADI Dive Centers: Anglesey Divers, Divecrew, Diving Leisure London, DiveStyle and Diving Unlimited.

PADI staff also gave a warm welcome to Miss Scuba International 2013, Jaime-Lee Faulkner, who visited the PADI stand on Sunday.

Within the main hall, John Carlin presented Inspiring Underwater Photography in the main Photo Zone and enjoyed a full house on both days. Attendees left with new photography insights and a PADI “Goodie Bag” to inspire divers to further their skills as well as boost sales of courses and equipment.

PhotoZoneThe Discover Scuba Diving Pool was overwhelmed with visitors lining up to try diving with PADI 5 Star IDC Centre London School of Diving, and Saturday alone saw more DSD participants than had taken part during the entire 2013 LIDS!

The Telegraph Outdoor Adventure and Travel Show

PADI joined forces with Canon UK to combine the best of scuba diving and photography within a specially-designed space, which attracted non-stop visitors throughout every day of the show.

PADI Staff enjoyed an excellent opportunity to engage non-divers, introduce them to the world of scuba and encourage them to visit LIDS to try diving that same weekend, as well as sharing the benefits of improving photography skills with the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course. Visitors could even test Canon cameras in an ocean-themed dip tank running through the middle of the stand!

The main event, however, was the grand prize draw which attracted over 700 entries and which provides a keen contact list of potential divers with whom PADI Marketing will communicate and incentivise with post-show communications, in order to help drive sales of PADI courses and equipment for the coming dive season.

Just one lucky visitor to the stand, Mr Gary Edwardson, won the ultimate package of scuba goodies which included a full PADI scuba diving course, a full set of scuba gear, a Canon camera and underwater housing and a PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course. Worth over £3,000 this incredible prize was supported by PADI, Canon, Apeks/Aqualung, Fourth Element and Suunto.

“I feel incredibly privileged and lucky to have been picked out of the hat to win this extensive prize list.  I’m extremely excited about getting started on the course. What excites me most about completing the course is that it will add an extremely important string to my wildlife photography bow. I’m dedicated to exploring the world we live on, to travel the far reaches of the planet and discover the array of underwater life would be a dream come true”, said Mr Edwardson.

PADI will be exhibiting at the Birmingham Dive Show in October – watch this space to find out what PADI promotions will be on offer to help drive sales at the show and beyond.
